Introducing... Kohler Command PRO CS 8.5 KOHLER OFFERS CUSTOMERS A MID-FRAME COMMAND PRO® CS ENGINE AT 8.5 HORSEPOWER

Kohler® Engines, manufacturer of the Command PRO CS Series -- which includes small- and large-frame engines from 4 to 12 horsepower -- now offers customers a power-packed 8.5 hp mid-frame alternative to drive their off-road equipment.

"At 250 cc, the Kohler Command PRO CS 8.5 complements our existing small-frame models at 4 and 6 horsepower and large-frame models at 10 and 12 horsepower," said Paul Blum, product manager for Kohler Engines, "and competes against other utility engines at eight and nine horsepower. Based on an extensive battery of durability and performance tests, we're confident that this engine will prove to be the superior offering within its horsepower range."

Kohler successfully launched the overhead-valve, slant-cylinder Command PRO CS series in early 1999, providing customers within the rental, construction, industrial, agriculture, welding and commercial-turf markets with a top-notch engine choice that delivered key performance benefits. The new Command PRO CS 8.5 utilizes many of these same features, including (benefit/features):

• effortless, reliable starting -- solenoid shift electric starter (instant spark), automatic compression release, and dual main ball bearings;
• extended run times -- oversized steel fuel tank (6 liters) with an intake strainer and three-position shutoff and filter, swirl-induction combustion chamber, and OHV slant-cylinder design;
• power and torque -- increased displacement over competitive models, and high-inertia flywheel;
• quiet, smooth operation -- integrated exhaust system that includes oversized muffler and spark arrestor, silenced air intake, sound-deadening alloy crankcase, mechanical governor, and balance shaft;
• engine durability -- cast iron cylinder sleeve, steel-forged crankshaft, and Stellite-faced exhaust valves with Tufftride-coated stems;
• long engine life/easy maintenance -- dual-element air cleaner, dual-side oil drain and fill, Oil Sentry&tm; warning system for low oil levels, and easy access to throttle, choke and shutoff controls.

To assist OEMs, the compact Command PRO CS 8.5 engine incorporates an unobstructed PTO face and a dual-directional remote throttle design, meaning that installation within all types of equipment is nearly hassle-free. The engine is an excellent repower option for existing equipment, meeting industry standards for drop-in replacement.

Kohler has developed specific options for its new engine, including 2:1 or 6:1 gear reductions and a heavy-duty, cyclonic air cleaner to cover an array of applications where rigorous working conditions are the norm. Also, for the hot water pressure washer market, the new Command PRO CS 8.5 engine can be equipped with an 18-amp rectified charging system.

In addition to pressure washers, the versatile Kohler Command PRO CS 8.5 engine serves as the ideal choice to power a wide range of applications, including pumps, generators, compressors, mixers, concrete saws, welders, log splitters, chippers/shredders, aerators, leaf blowers and sprayers.

The 250 cc, 8.5 hp engine has a 75 mm bore, 57 mm stroke, measures 291.5 mm (L) x 430 mm (W) x 428 mm (H), and weighs 58 lbs. With an 8.3:1 compression ratio, it produces 12.2 lbs. ft. of maximum torque (@ 2,400 rpm).
